SEND Sierra Leone is the latest programme of the SEND Family. It is set to begin any time from mid 2008.
The decision to establish SEND Sierra Leone was reached during the AGM from 13th – 15th March 2008 at Gillbt in Tamale. It was decided that Sierra Leone and Liberia are two countries where SEND could firmly establish itself and realise excellent results just as it had done in Ghana.
Sierra Leone is a country that is emerging from a civil conflict that ravaged it from 1991-2002. It is one of the poorest countries in the world, according to the Human Development Report of 2008.
Since SEND is establishing itself there at the early stages of democracy and reconstruction, it is hoped that the rich experiences of capacity building and policy advocacy learnt in the Ghana programme would be employed and bear fruit within a shorter time in Sierra Leone.
